6 String Drag—the seminal alt-country band from Raleigh, NC—reunite on Saturday, January 4th at Pour House Music Hall for their first show together since 2005 and only their 3rd show since they “broke up” in 1998. The other two occasions being a performance to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims in 2005 and for the Alejandro Escovedo benefit in 2003.

Their 2nd album, 1997’s High Hat was released to national critical acclaim. (co-produced by Steve Earle and Ray Kennedy and released on Earle’s Warner Brothers imprint label E-Squared).

“This girl drug me to Atlanta to see Whiskeytown, and 6 String Drag was opening. I signed them instead. Not that I thought Whiskeytown was bad, 6 String Drag was just more interesting to me and I wish to *&^%$ they could’ve lasted. Their record (High Hat) was my favorite we made on that label. They were really special. Had this thing like The Band, where it’s so loose it’s tight, and I liked the way Kenny and Rob sang together.”Steve Earle (in Losering by David Menconi)

“I knew Kenny Roby in Raleigh NC, where we both had bands (Whiskeytown and 6 String Drag), his was better than mine.”Ryan Adams on NPR’s All Songs Considered

After the release of High Hat, 6 String Drag toured the US playing stints and one-off performances with Steve Earle, The Jayhawks, Whiskeytown, Ryan Adams, Buddy and Julie Miller, Son Volt, Gillian Welch, The Gourds, Slobberbone, Drive-By Truckers and many more.

After the band split Kenny Roby moved on with a solo career and released 4 more critically acclaimed solo records including Memories & Birds in 2013. Rob Keller currently writes, records and performs with his band The Welfare Liners in Athens, GA as well as playing on other artists’ records and Scotty Miller has gone on to be an in-demand session guitar player as well as performing and collaborating with Erin Nenni Band and others.

Take advantage of this rare opportunity to see them play live together. They will be joined on stage by other respected members of the triangle music scene (including a horn section!!!) in what promises to be a packed house and a lively night of roots rock ‘n’ roll. Kick off the new year with what will be one of the most special nights of 2014.
